Clues to Food
What is a 'Letterboxer'? It's someone who loves to follow obscurely written clues to a secretly hidden container full of a small logbook and a (usually) hand-carved rubber stamp. Most use 'trail names' when online and on the rubber-stamp hunt. For more information, visit Letterboxing North America or Atlas Quest. Be sure you read through the tutorials and best practices before you go out hunting any letterboxes. Don't let other people see you retrieving or replacing the letterbox in its hiding place, or it may not be there for the next person.

This book came together in about two months. In November 2009 one person on the message boards at Atlas Quest suggested there should be a cook book made with the holiday recipes that were being posted. Marie, a more-or-less permanent resident of those boards, volunteered to organize and publish it, and the recipes came pouring in. One letterboxer said she was determined to get all of her family favorites in so she could find them all in one place.

There were recipes for things to eat, recipes for how to de-skunk your unfortunate dog, and recipes for home-made soaps. Some of the recipes have won awards, but all are tried-and-true.

SHH offered a recipe for her Challah bread by giving a link to her blog, where both the recipe and a photo of the finished bread was. The picture looked so yummy that permission to use it for the front cover of the book was quickly obtained.

My book arrived today! It came MUCH faster than the website quoted! I wasn't expecting it to come for another two weeks, so I'm pretty happy.

I've had the chance to thumb through it and I already have a few recipes I'm dying to try out. The thing I really like about it is, it has REAL recipes in it. By that I mean, most of these recipes use ingredients that can be found in the average home on any given day. It's a very practical cookbook and I have found that while fancy gourmet cookbooks are nice...the truth is I rarely use them because many of the ingredients are too expensive to use on a regular basis or the recipes are way too time-consuming for any given day. Clues to Food is full of recipes that would be perfect for everyday use, parties and holidays.

I just had to take a minute to tell you how much I appreciate all the work you put into the cookbook! Mine arrived today and I could not wait to get into it! Not only was it so exciting to see all the recipes and stamps...but all the extras you put into it as well--both useful and funny! Thank you so very much for your time and efforts, and the amazing speed in which you assembled this wonderful creation. Now I need to go and read it cover to cover.

Oh, I concur! I got mine today too! Speedy shipping, I must say, as it wasn't due yet. Yippee! What fun it has been reading as fast as I can all the little tips and such, not to mention the recipes, too, as I went along. I have barely skimmed the surface and there are so many good-looking recipes. Just know we are going to have some tasty meals in the future. Especially appreciate the substitutions list. Seems I'm always out of something in a recipe and this will go a long way toward helping out. A lot of those I have never heard of before.

It's so much fun seeing the signature stamps that go along with the trail names. You did a wonderful job, [Anne], everything is just, well...Perfect! I am pleased as punch! Thank you for your hard work, and thanks to all the contributors, too. Many years will this little cook book grace my shelf and counter top. I would imagine the counter top more than the shelf. I'm not the type to throw things together; I need the written recipes to refer to for instructions.

Thank you from the bottom of my stomach, ewwww, no, from the bottom of my heart. ;-D
